I found a script to visualize the music I had scrobbled to last.fm last year, I modified the script by Patrick McDonough to create this bar chart race, to display the albums/releases that I had on the stereo- this is what one year’s listening looks like in 3 minutes:
A few observations-
- Love listening to pop music — a lot of The Avalanches, Caroline Polachek, Empress Of, etc. Also a lot of electronic, and synth-pop, soul, and indie.
- There’s always a rotation of new music, plus some recent releases, that tend to float up and down. The favorite albums tend to dominate the chart in the week or two that they peak.
- Weeks with more scrobbles tend to have more variety of albums, more so than weeks with fewer scrobbles; but there’s still a lot of variety.
